Review-Elvis McGonagall-Not So Loud11-12-13

Doggerel. It’s one of those words that you’ve heard often, a real ‘dad’ word. I remember my dad using it to describe my homework. But sitting down to write this review, I realised I wasn’t sure of its precise meaning. Having now read the dictionary definition, I’m not sure my dad did either.

Review-In Search of the Grand View Garden-CCDC7-12-13

Ah, The Dream of the Red Chamber yet again is inspiration for a dance performance though this time around it was not a classical dance but something much more modern, much more avant-garde.

Review-Through the Keyhole-Playtime Productions29-11-13

Some of you may have not known that yesterday was Thanksgiving in America. It was all too fitting that I was invited to see Through the Keyhole. Through the Keyhole is a charity production benefiting Feeding Hong Kong. Feeding Hong Kong is a wonderful charity that helps deal with the hunger problem we have in town.

Review-The Elephant Man-Performance Exchange28-11-13

If, like me, you’ve not seen the David Lynch movie or the Bernard Pomerance play, you can still come to a show about the Elephant Man (the late Victorian ‘monster’ aka John Merrick) with plenty of preconceptions.

Review-Bun in the Oven-HKPFF26-11-13

From securing a spot at the Matilda Hospital, to likening the smell of perfume to stinky tofu stands in Mong Kok, Bun In The Oven promises to take the audience on a roller coaster ride of the Hong Kong pregnancy experience. Mulan is the story of a girl who pretends to be a man so she can join the army in the place of her weak and ailing father. By taking his place, she saves his life and then helps to save her people.

Coming Soon... Freespace Fest 201321-11-13

This week we were invited to the media picnic for Freespace Fest at the West Kowloon Arts District. This is the second year that the festival will be happening in HK. 20,000 people attended the festival last year. Outdoor theatre experiences are few and far between in this city and Freespace Fest was invented to get the people outdoors, enjoying art and the beautiful city around them. The festival will be happening next month on December 14th and 15th.

Review-Girl Uninterrupted-HKPFF20-11-13

You might think, as I did, this Girl Uninterrupted in some way linked to a similarly named film. Well, it isn’t - but it most definitely does establish close relations with many other classic films.

Review-Fringe Club Play Readings-Hong Kong Hamlet19-11-13

There are two distinct types of play readings. One is a type where persons are given the script beforehand, some time to practice and the audience watches a reading of the play. The second is where a group of people come together, sit around a table and are given parts on the night. They read the script together as a community project similar to when it was Shakespeare day in American high school.
