Review- FOLK-S: Will you still love me tomorrow?- Hong Kong Arts Festival26-2-16

FOLK-S uses the typical Bavarian and Tyrolean folk dance 'Schuhplattler'. The show description explains that this 'involves striking palms against thighs, legs and shoes, creating percussive sounds and rhythms'. I formed an idea in my minds eye that this might be reminiscent of a show like 'Stomp' and was excited to see the folk dance twist. I was wrong. Very wrong.

Review- Freespace Happening- WKCD11-8-15

Freespace Happening is a showcase of Hong Kong’s local talent in the great outdoors. Well, close enough… West Kowloon Cultural District. Outdoor art events in Hong Kong are few and far between and I was happy to see that this event was about promoting local artists and making art affordable and accessible. Each Freespace Happening will feature music, handicraft market, street performances and a selection of special attractions and take place on the second sunday of each month.

Shakespeare in the Port Returns to HK6-2-15

After attracting over 2,000 people last year to a positive debut, Shakespeare in the Port is back again this April for another festival of outdoor theatre. This year, the main stage shows are promised to be bigger and better with two of the Bard’s famous comedies, The Tempest and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, to balance a hefty tragedy King Lear. Not only is the selection increased, this year’s productions are bilingual and will feature different theatre styles. The Tempest directed by Aska Leung is a physical theatre production in Cantonese; Midsummer is adapted for kids; and King Lear directed by Ben Margalith is an adapted English production with a Queen at the heart of its tragedy.
