The brainchild of Tom Hope, Brave Heart is an underground gem that brings theatre to an alternative crowd in an intimate space, The Premium Sofa Club. Preview-Three Little Men-Brave Heart Theatre28-11-14

Brave Heart Theatre has opened two shows so far in the past couple months but they're not finished yet with their inaugural 2014 season. They're closing with a world premiere piece by Wing Man Lam - a local HK playwright getting her debut with a new theatre company in an alternative performance space, the Premium Sofa Club. Home grown theatre company Aurora Theatre is back with their latest production, Romance, by award-winning playwright and theorist David Mamet. "This is Aurora Theatre's 10th play," says director Nicole Garbellini. "We've been around for three and half years. Our first play was Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross... The first time I read this play I was quite in shock. Will Hong Kong audiences be ready for this play?" Nicole is a well known face on the Hong Kong stage and has appeared in countless productions since her arrival in 2005, working with various theatre companies including: ACT, Perilous Mouths, Stylus Productions, Theatron and Shakespeare in the Port, on top of her role as maestro for Aurora Theatre.

If you’ve been in Hong Kong pre-handover you might remember The Double Bass (in Cantonese) directed by Tang Shu Wing at the 1995 Hong Kong Arts Festival. Written by award winning German playwright and novelist (who wrote Perfume) Patrick Suskind, it tells the story of a musician working in an orchestra as (you guessed it) a Double Bass player.

Preview-One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest-Naiad Productions26-9-14

Director and producer Lara Genovese has made quite a name for herself the last few years in Hong Kong. Starting off as a designer for shows like Orphans and California Suite, Lara began her directing career with An Accidental Death of an Anarchist and last year’s P.S.- Your Cat is Dead! She’s now hitting harder material in a larger space with One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest next month at the HK Rep Blackbox. Known for her stellar attention to detail, we’re looking forward to how she interprets the barren space of a mental institution.
